I was still in my grade school when I first heard of London; I remember that ALL of us in the class thought that London is a country. So, when our teacher instructed us to point out London on a map we had a very hard time for we were looking for a country. Naive us.

That was approximately 25 yeas ago, did I divulge my age with that? The irony is now I am living in a London flat. Of course, I had seen so many the London Bridge and the new addition to the lists is the London Eye. In every London travel itinerary these two are the most common London destination.

London travel guides usually point out the major attractions; I could not blame them for maybe they are time constraints. But there is more in London. The subtle charm of this city lies on the less known. If you are living on a London flat surrounded by the Londoner culture and destination you would know what I mean.

I remember my first London travel; the mere sight of the London Bridge took my breath away and I feel it is okay to die that very moment. Well, perhaps that is a hyberbole. But yes London Bridge is a symbol of the city of London. London tourism is already established. In fact the industry is growing and still on top of its prime.

The making of the London Eye can be merited to the dynamic London tourism. The progressive standard of a London flat can also be merited to that office. London flats as always try to adhere to some standards. That made every occupant more comfortable.

London flats represented a fraction Londoner culture. Living in it can make you feel like one of them. London here I come.

London city is an interesting place to be. And anyone can come up with any reason to be able to step on London soil. Anybody can be in London either to study, tour, do business, or for any other reasons. It does not need any special strategy to make your London Travel a very special one for everything just laid down on your feet. London’s name itself is already an interest to tourist that is packed with many wonderful places from Taxi tours, gardens, history, myth, authors, architecture to Shakespeare’s globe theatre.

Major places of interest to visit whenever you drop by or wanted to tour London include: BBC tour, British Airways London, the British Library, Hampton court Palace, Kensington Palace, State Apartments & royal Ceremonial Dress Collection, London Dungeon, Pumphouse Educational Museum, Royal Opera House, Shakespeare’s globe Exhibition, Sherlock Holmes Museum, tower Bridge Exhibition, tower of London, Winston Churchill’s’ Britain at War Experience, Chislehurst Caves, London zoo and London Bridge Experience and the London Tombs.

Which do you think is/are the most popular London attractions that you know of? Perhaps Sherlock Holmes’s Museum would be an interest to those who love suspense. This time meet the fictional character with the astute deductive, observation and inference skill to solve difficult cases. Curiosity is indeed a true nature of man. Anybody who met Holmes would love to see what inside the museum. What paraphernalia is present and absent in this collection.

Who hadn’t heard of the nursery song, “London Bridge is falling down, falling down… my first lady?” As a child we loved London from our very hearts and never even thought of pinning its coordinates on the map. Yet, now as adult and geography students perhaps it would be nice to visit the city that filled our childhood days with laughter and memories.

The properties in central London are said to be the third highest cost tag worldwide, at an average of £14,299 per square metre, according to recent studies. Although London can be costly, it is not exactly the most expensive place to purchase property. Many flats in London are still cheap compared to the standards in Monte Carlo where top-end apartments cost highly twice as much in London, with an average of £32,777 per square metre. Moscow properties are in second place, which cost around £14,366 per square metre. The price is higher than in London to only a slight difference, according to the Global Property found research group. The prices of properties in the English capital have been falling throughout last year, which is the reason why Moscow had overtaken out of London. The price of properties started to fall in Moscow only during the last section of the year.

Moreover, both countries have experienced strong drops in currency just recently, which would have impacted the research results as figures are counted in US dollars. The study was based on a 120 square meter average price, of high-end apartments in the middle of 110 cities worldwide, and found Tokyo as the fourth most expensive city in the world followed by Hong Kong. Other very expensive cities include Paris, New York, Rome, Singapore and Mumbai, all made up the rest of the 10 most expensive cities. On the other hand, Cairo is reportedly the cheapest city on earth. Its top-end apartments only cost £395 per square metre on average, and followed by Bangalore at £453 per square metre.

However, Central London, Bayswater, Hyde Park, Nottinghill and Mayfair are just as pricey. These sites have properties that have high demands which is not normal for an everyday buyer. Foreigners like to buy properties making initial deposits up to 50%. Central London is one of the world’s most expensive cities to live, and is apparently one of the many places in UK where you can secure luxurious London flats.

London belongs to the top five most visited countries worldwide. Tourists visiting London usually prefer to locate their spots in the greater London area. Greater London has a land area of six hundred nine square miles, and for many years now this part of London is an important center of politics, culture and commerce. One needs not worry much of a place to stay in this district. The vacation flats offer the best value for your money. However, the apartments are noticeably quite more expensive compared to other cities. But honestly there are rarely cheap prices to expect in London. The country is terrific and the lifestyle grand, and everything else attached to it is a price tag. You can hardly expect to find relatively cheap prices of other countries. However, the general assessment will prove your money’s worth so it should not be a wonder. The apparent advantages of these vacation flats are:

Cost Efficiency. The overall feature of a typical London flat defines cost effectiveness. Sufficient spaces are illustrated and room divisions are simplified. If you are lucky you may even get the right furniture along with it.

Availability. The availability of these lodges is found almost everywhere. First-time tourists will not encounter a difficult time finding a place to stay. Huge revenue of London’s economy comes from its tourism. In line with this, homeowners have taken the initiative to invest in local houses for tourists accommodations.

Accessibility. By accessibility we mean its convenience to the use of transportation. Remarkably, anywhere is likely to be in short minute’s proximity to the country’s excellent infrastructure, with the networks of tube routes and buses.

Landmarks. London has plenty of landmarks that will serve as your guide to identifying locations. Besides the landmarks are the many popular London streets such as the Oxford street, for instance.

There are many notable sights and places to remember in Greater London. But always consider essentially your circumstantial purposes. Know your local site tour priorities and find your position closest to it. And if you are there to study, ensure your flat/apartment is close to your school. For a first-time traveler/tourist, start with keeping in mind just the few familiar ones to avoid confusing you. You will eventually find your way around independently later on and search places with Brazil property and Philippines property.

London is an outstanding resort for those traveling for business and pleasure. Aside from the fact that it is a focal point for business, it is also an outlet for your aesthetic treats. You will be relaxed in its theatres, concert halls, galleries and museums. You can also engage yourself in leisure time and great activities, as well as discover traditions that they have preserved since venerable times. Well, there is so much to do in London. Music, comedy shows, theatres and classical operas are chief make-ups of their entertainment.

The London hotels are exquisite. You can find great choices in the capital London area, not only are they grand and stylish, they also offer comfort that fits the value of your money. When selecting your London hotel try to see if you have maximized your choice. Good hotels have all the amenities and good facilities that you most likely need. Moreover, consider having a close resort to a recreation outside your doors, it is best if you can find good parks and shop establishments nearby. It is helpful that you get the resources of your prime necessities accessible for you. After all it is London, you can’t possibly have the hardest time finding an accommodation that can meet your preferences.

London is also where you can have the best shops and great shopping. The terrific style of London is evident in the streets and stores wherein you can see people that dress themselves presentably, and in the stores where you can dig to the coolest stuffs and wears. So while in London it is unlikely you will not find yourself going with the flow and in style. The nightlife is even fantastic. The bars and pubs get filled up each night, showing the kind of fun-loving people they are. It is a fascinating lifestyle as they work during daytime and have a good time by night time. Come to think of it, London is not everything I imagined it to be. It is amazing how they managed to preserve most of their customs and traditions as seen in their magnificent buildings and monuments, and yet have retained a way of life that is both modern and keen to its essentials.

If London’s architectural design gets a big “ahhhh!” from the tourist you must see the wonderful parks of London. London is the largest urban area of England and often called the “The Green City”. The first thing that I got engrossed with in every place I travel is the park and gardens the city accommodates. Architecture and historical sites came second to this. I was so glad that London offered so many beautiful gardens for locals and visitors to see.

With London’s temperate climate you will really like the gardens that London showcases.
Let us visit the garden and parks inside the London’s centre.

       • Royal Parks of Hyde Park It is one of the Royal Parks of London and one of the largest garden parks in central London England. It is 350 acres and opens until midnight. The grand entrance of this park was made from the designs of Decimus Burton. The size of the whole entrance is about 107 ft. There are several London Underground stations located on or near Hyde Park like the Hyde Park Corner and Knightsbridge, etc.

       • Kensington Gardens It is one of the Royal Parks in London. It was formerly the private gardens of Kensington Palace. It is in 275 acres land and located west of Hyde Park. This is the park mentioned in the story Peter Pan of J.M. Barrie. The character Peter Pan and the author of the book were both honored in this park thus an iconic statue of Peter Pan is located in this park.

       • Green Park Its name indeed gives justice to its surrounding. Green Park is blanketed with green scenery during the spring season and covering an area of approximately 53 acres. Compared to other parks in London, Green Park has no fountain or statue but made merely of beautiful and wonderful wooded meadows. It is also one of the Royal Gardens.

       • St. James’s Park is the oldest park among the Royal Park in London. This park is named after a leper hospital located in the southernmost part of St. James place. This park is dedicated to St. James the Less.

These parks are only a few of the so many parks in London like the Bushy Park, Greenwich Park, Richmond Parks and the rest. Experience the magnetic appeal of these parks in London.

ONE of the London-based idols that I love is that fictional character created by Eidos, Lara Croft. And one of the most memorable scenes in a Lara Croft movie that I love in the movie is the gliding that Lara Croft did in Hong Kong with her love interest in the film. Here in London where I am staying all the way through Valentines weekend with my lovely Chinese-Spanish wife Leizl, there are no opportunities for gliding here but there is one close to that – bungee jumping. There’s actually an exclusive members only club here for bungee jumpers – the aptly-named UK Bungee Club but on occasions such as Valentines and New Year’s, the UK Bungee Club is offering its doors to tourists, especially foreign ones. And certainly I am a tourist since my wife and I came all the way from Salamanca.

I can hardly wait to be bungee jumping here in London during Valentines. It’s good already at 99 pounds per couple and that’s already inclusive of a bottle of champagne. Of course, you don’t litter the champagne over the air in London; you wait till both of you settle back to the ground. But if bungee jumping is not enough for you, then there is also a skydiving event here in London by February 14 or Valentines Day but this event is mostly for single ladies only who don’t have romantic partners yet. The skydiving event is held in Swindon just outside London and your tandem instructor is a very handsome hunk just like the knights of old in King Arthur’s round table. So ladies, if you don’t have a date yet, skydiving with a guy as handsome as Orlando Bloom even for just less than five minutes is a superb experience already. Rate is as good as 200 pounds per person.

Then by February 15, my wife and I will be attending the London premiere of The Eye starring Jessica Alba. I have always been rooting for Jessica Alba since she was still 14 in the Hollywood television series Flipper. I was in my sophomore year in college at Universidad de Madrid then, taking up a degree in journalism. I have already seen Jessica Alba live and in person at the London Eye during the premiere of Rise of the Silver Surfer in 2006 but this time, I want to see her again on how she looks when she’s pregnant. I have heard that she looked great in a maternity gown during the Technical Oscars’ night held an evening before the Grammy Awards. Besides, my wife Leizl loves horror movies and this is like hitting two birds in one stone.

Also on February 15, Jennifer Love Hewitt (the star of The Ghost Whisperer) will have a semi-radio concert-cum-interview at BBC Radio 3 and because my cousin Guillermo is a technician at BBC Radio 3, he has already arranged of seats for us inside the radio station so we can watch Jennifer Love Hewitt singing. Jeez, this Valentines will really be a memorable one for my wife Leizl and I even though we don’t have any kids yet.

WHILE Chinese celebrations of the Year of the Earth Rat are in full swing, it may be cool to visit London’s Chinatown and contemplate there while you are here on a holiday in London. London has lots of things to offer and we can see parts of London based from movies released in January. In the movie National Treasure: Book of Secrets, we saw that the thugs in the movie played by Ed Harris retrieved an artifact dumped into River Thames by Nicolas Cage. Then in Eastern Promises, a Russian thug drops a dead body into the same river. Years back, I could recall London being in an authoritarian state in V for Vendetta. Of course, this is certainly not true in the real London life as there has been no body dumped there in recent memory unless you count the Jack the Ripper case in the 19th century which was a very long time ago. Of course, Jack the Ripper’s story was sort of immortalized in the Johnny Depp-headlined film From Hell. The real River Thames which extends far out onto suburbian London features rowing and other water sports.

But right now, since it is Chinese New Year, I will tour you into one of the exotic parts of London – its own Chinatown. 2008 is certainly a lucky year because three of the digits are round; meaning luck is infinite. And the number “8” even feature double zeros. Sadly, this has not been the fate portrayed upon British Chinese as far as Hollywood movies are concerned. We in Britain must erase that concept portrayed by Hollywood. British Chinese are portrayed there as human smugglers where Chinese just wash up on our beaches here in England. That certainly is not true, right? In fact, when you visit Chinatown in Soho, you can see that the Chinese are very industrious. That is one of the Oriental legacies that we inherit from them – they can live well even through the worst of times.

The influence of the Chinese in London culture is so much alive that even Mayor Ken Livingstone himself graced the 2008 Chinese New Year celebrations here yesterday. The parade cruised the major thoroughfares of the whole Soho district, including Shaftesbury Avenue, Charing Cross Road and the Strand. In Trafalgar Square, there was a concert featuring British Chinese artists throughout the night which rocked the whole area even until dawn.

There is one connection between China and London in this year’s celebration. Beijing, which is the capital of China, is the host of the 2008 Summer Olympics which will be undergone later this year. The next host of the Olympics by 2012 will be London of course. There will be a Chinese film festival featuring movies by filmmakers from Beijing, Hong Kong and Taipei. There will be visiting acrobats and music artists from Beijing who will be holding concerts not just during New Year’s Day itself but throughout February and on to the summer while Olympics is going on in Beijing.

THE year 2008 is definitely good for London as far as publicity is concerned. We open the year with a very laughable Hollywood movie scene starring none other than star Nicolas Cage who tries to open the left side door of a car in London in a getaway chase only to find out that the driver’s side is to the right. All in all, the peculiarity of driving in London is highlighted in the movie. And this is what made the city so attractive to tourists all over the world.

Another interesting update about London this year is their preparation for the 2012 Olympic Games. Even though the 2008 Olympic Games is yet to unfold this summer in Beijing, Londoners are already excited that their city is host of the Olympics next to the 2008 one in Beijing, China. In fact, the mayor of London confined at his very fine quarters which is one of the most unique architectural pieces in the world, the London City Hall, is now spearheading a massive campaign to help finance the 2012 Olympic Games such as advertising exchange deals of major consumer and IT products. Even holding of daily lotteries from now up to 2012 just to raise funds is being contemplated already. Another preparation that they have is choosing Aldershot as the major venue for the games. Aldershot, a British Royal Army base, has all the sports facilities with Olympic standards such as the swimming pool, a running track and a hockey pitch. But the reason to choose Aldershot is more of a psychological one. Coaches of Team Great Britain want to instill their athletes that their discipline and dedication to their respective sport is comparable with soldiers from the British Royal Army.

But let’s go back to basics first. After settling in your hotel room, what does a typical foreign tourist in London need? It is food of course. And there is no such thing as London cuisine. Everything is generically Western. So you can have restaurants of choice. But the trend right now in London restaurants is to have the Mediterranean diet. If North America has the South Beach diet and Atkins diet, then London has the Mediterranean diet. Of course, London is nowhere close to the Mediterranean, it is not even a coastal city, and the only body of water you can see from London is River Thames. However, Mediterranean diet simply consists of anything that is sautéed in olive oil (olive is a product of the Mediterranean region) and they mostly consist of seafood as well as fruits and vegetables.

Now let’s go now on updates in the metallurgical business. Rio Tinto is aggressively pushing for profits this year due largely from earnings in its overseas operations. Rio Tinto’s ore production mainly comes from China and Australia. From these facts alone, we can deduce that London is a very nice place to visit in 2008.
